Meet the Artist

Hi! My name is Sarah and I am been an artist all my life. My passion is creating art. I have worked as a professional graphic designer for over 20 years. Creating art for others has always left my own creativity unexplored.
In 2012, I took my first stained glass course learning about cutting, grinding, and fitting stained glass using the classic lead came method. I expanded my skills later than year learning the copper foil method. For a few years, I created some patterns produced by others, and slowly created a few of my own patterns. These pieces were given as gifts or sold to family and friends.
In 2014, my husband bought me a glass kiln for my birthday. When we moved to Tacoma in 2015, I vowed to learn how to use it. I took a fused glass course at a local glass shop. I shifted focus to fused glass for awhile - experimenting with kiln temperatures and glass combinations to solidify the skills I learned in class. I sampled selling my art in 2018 and Fyreocity kicked off.
I had a vision about how to make a 3-dimensional fused glass jellyfish. I researched, tested, and engineered my first jellyfish - it turned out exactly how I had pictured it! I remember the day I took my first two jellyfish to Dune Peninsula to take photos. I got comments from passing park goers about how cool they were. I brought them to my first big market in 2019. Then the pandemic hit.
When I returned to markets in 2021-2022, I had a lot of fused glass, and during a halloween market, I brought a few old stained glass pieces that immediately sold. I decided I would add stained glass into my repertoire, but I wasn't going to create patterns from others, or make pieces that were based on current trends. My jellyfish inspired me. I am originally from Connecticut, and I've always loved the ocean. I lived in a place where orcas swam in the wild, so I developed my first original ocean-inspired stained glass piece - the orca that is now my logo.
I officially started Fyreocity as a business in 2023 and have been very blessed to have so many opportunities for my art to be exposed in a community that also has great love of the ocean. My vibe attracts my tribe, and I have been overwhelmed and incredibly thankful for all the love and support of my art.
I live in Tacoma, WA with my husband and our 2 rescue dogs, Onyx and Sirius.
